Deli sandwiches are pretty filling, and the sandwich alone is probably enough food strictly speaking. However, deli sandwiches also tend to have a very heavy flavor profile that can overwhelm your taste buds without relief. That's where the side dishes come in. Sure you can order fries if you want to - again. Maybe it's time to rethink your sandwiches sidekick. Here are five taste-bud pleasing sides to try.
Parmesan Cheese Popcorn or Truffle Popcorn. Popcorn isn't as heavy as French fries but still provides a salty, crunchy element to the meal. This would work best with less filling meats such as chicken or turkey subs.
Roasted vegetable kebobs. Carefully roast chunky vegetables such as sweet potato, squash, onions, mushrooms and tomatoes. The idea is to select vegetables that will stay on the kebab spear and hold up when roasted. Roasting brings out a deeper flavor that should complement deli sandwiches. This side suites all sandwich types and can be especially savory for roast beef.
Apple or Peach compote adds fruity sweetness to offset the salty taste in deli meat. This salty and sweet combination may turn you into a fan sooner that you might think. It works especially well with turkey
Cucumber, tomato and onion salad marinated in vinegar and oil can be a great taste bud saver. This side pairs well with turkey sandwiches, especially if the sandwich comes with cranberry on it.
Avocado rolls or fries. It was only a matter of time before restaurants started serving this side dish. Deep frying avocado results in intensifying its flavor, This can safely be served with any deli sandwiches because the taste doens't transfer to the deli mean or other foods. This goes best with pork, turkey or chicken.
