What to Expect from Microdermabrasion
Microdermabrasion is a popular medical spa treatment that can address many common skincare concerns. It may be right for you if you’re dissatisfied with the appearance of fine lines, acne scars, sun damage, or stretch marks. It can even improve the texture and tone of your skin, making it appear more youthful and vibrant.
How Microdermabrasion Works
Microdermabrasion is a manual (non-chemical) method of buffing away dead skin cells and the top layer of skin. The aesthetician uses a handheld device to spray exfoliating crystals on the skin. The handheld device simultaneously vacuums up the crystals as they are sprayed. In some medical spas, a diamond-tipped device is used instead of a crystal-spraying device.
How Long It Takes
Microdermabrasion doesn’t take long at all. In fact, many people get it done on their lunch breaks. It only takes an average of 15 to 30 minutes to complete this treatment. If you decide to combine microdermabrasion with a facial however, you can expect to spend about 60 to 90 minutes at the med spa.
What to Expect
When you arrive at the med spa, the aesthetician will take you to a room where you can change into a gown. The aesthetician will cleanse the treatment area before performing the treatment. This is followed by another facial cleansing to remove any remaining crystals. Then, all that’s needed is an application of moisturizer and sunscreen before you’re ready to leave the med spa.
What Happens Afterward
Microdermabrasion treatments do not require any downtime. You can immediately return to your usual activities. However, do try to stay out of the sun. Your skin might be a little pink afterward. This is temporary.
